Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) in Port Elizabeth (Province of the Eastern Cape)

The partnership contract between the University of Port Elizabeth (UPE) and the University of Oldenburg, signed in 1998, has been confirmed and extended in 2006 after the merger of the UPE with VISTA University, Port Elizabeth and the P.E.Technikon in 2005.

Partnership Commissioner at the NMMU is Dr. Nico Jooste, Director of the International Education Centre; Partnership Commissioner at the University of Oldenburg is Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Nitsch.

The partnership agreement concerns teaching, research and in-service continuing education in all Faculties, the exchange of students, academics and management personnel, joint projects or programmes in research and teaching. Fields of priority are teacher education, school development and German Language and Literature.
